In 2024, Kaduna State Fire Service reported 323 fire outbreaks, resulting in 11 fatalities and significant property damage. According to the Director of the Fire Service, Mr. Paul Aboi, the incidents occurred primarily in Kafanchan, Zaria, and the Kaduna metropolitan areas.

Aboi revealed that six individuals were rescued without injury, while 29 others sustained injuries during the fire outbreaks. The fire service successfully prevented the destruction of property valued at ₦21 billion, although ₦3.5 billion worth of property was lost.

The primary causes of these fires were identified as bush burning, carelessness, and improper use of electrical appliances. Aboi emphasized that ongoing advocacy by the state government and stakeholders aims to reduce fire incidents and prevent future tragedies.

The Fire Service is also focusing on fire prevention and inspection initiatives, including the renewal of fire safety certificates for businesses across the state. While complete eradication of fire outbreaks is unlikely, the service is committed to minimizing their occurrence and impact on both the public and the local economy.

Aboi urged residents to remain vigilant, take necessary precautions, and promptly contact the Fire Service during any fire emergency.
