Kaduna to Invest N93bn in Water Board Rehabilitation

By   Milcah    Tanimu

The Kaduna State Government has announced plans to invest N93 billion over the next four years to rehabilitate the Kaduna State Water Corporation (KADSWAC).

At a press conference in Kaduna, the Commissioner for Public Works and Infrastructure, Ibrahim Hamza, highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing the water sector’s neglect over the past decade.

Governor Uba Sani had earlier declared a state of emergency in the water sector, appointing Kabir Rufai as the Managing Director of KADSWAC. Hamza revealed that KADSWAC staff would be returned to the state payroll until 2027, when the corporation is expected to fully stabilize and operate as a commercial entity.

The rehabilitation plan includes investing in water treatment plants, distribution mains, sanitation, and hygiene. The N93 billion investment will be phased over four years: N17 billion this year, N35 billion in 2025, N30 billion in 2026, and N11 billion in 2027.

Hamza pointed out that past administrations had invested $50 million into the urban water supply scheme over the last 10 years with no tangible results. He also noted that KADSWAC will collaborate with the state’s 23 local governments to maintain water operation generators.
