Kano Assembly Refutes Online Publication, Described It As Misleading, Harmful, And Untrue.

By Jabiru Hassan.

Following the misleading and harmful report circulating on social media by freedom Radio which allegedly assessed members of the 10th Kano State House of Assembly based on motions moved during plenary sessions, it should be noted that such claims are baseless, unfounded, and untrue.

Firstly, it is crucial to highlight that the online platforms involved in the viral publication lack credibility and transparency. The professional integrity of the media outlets that carried and circulated unbarified report is also questionable.

To set the record straight, the Kano State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, has achieved significant milestones, including presiding over more than 300 plenary sessions and coordinating plenary debates, more 200 motions and bills among other accomplishments under his watch.

The claim of “zero motions” against the Rt. Hon. Speaker and other distinguished Honourable Members represents a clear misrepresentation and interpretation of legislative procedures.

The Rt. Hon. Speaker has four key responsibilities, which should form the basis of any fair assessment of his performance:

  1. Presiding over sittings to ensure the House adheres to its own rules.   2. Approving votes and proceedings to maintain accurate records of House resolutions.   3. Coordinating and facilitating debates.   4. Administering oaths to Members.

It is worth noting that, over the past two years, the Rt. Hon. Speaker has successfully presided over 300 sittings, coordinated debates on all motions and bills, and approved over 300 votes and proceedings.

In light of this, while disputing the information published in the online report, we urge the good people of Kano State to disregard such publications. Furthermore, we call on media outlets to uphold factual reporting and avoid misrepresenting facts to serve certain interests.
