Kano LG Commissioner Seeks NULGE’s Support for Developmental Goals

By Jabiru Hassan, Kano

The Kano State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Tajuddeen Othman Zaura, has called for the support of local government workers to achieve the administration’s development objectives.

Alhaji Zaura made this appeal during a courtesy visit by the executives of the Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to his office.

Workers as Key Stakeholders

Describing local government workers as pivotal to administrative success, the commissioner emphasized the need for their active participation in the transformation agenda of Kano’s 44 local governments. He elaborated on the state government’s recent approval of multi-billion naira projects in infrastructure, health, and other sectors. These include the construction of feeder roads, culverts, drainages, and the renovation of health facilities.

To ensure effective implementation, Alhaji Zaura revealed the establishment of a project monitoring committee to oversee adherence to guidelines, ensure accountability, and keep the public informed about project progress.

The commissioner pledged to include all NULGE members in key initiatives and encouraged the union to explore innovative revenue generation strategies to reduce reliance on check-off dues, thereby improving members’ welfare.

NULGE’s Commitment

In his remarks, Comrade Muhammad Ibrahim, the Kano State NULGE President, congratulated Alhaji Zaura on his redeployment to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and introduced the new union executives. He assured the commissioner of the workers’ support to enable him to fulfill his duties effectively and meet the expectations of the Kano State Governor.

Comrade Ibrahim also highlighted plans to conduct massive sensitization campaigns across the 44 local governments, urging workers to maintain decorum, passion, and enthusiasm in their duties.

Recognition of Dedication

The NULGE President expressed gratitude to the Kano State Government for extending the service years of the immediate past state NULGE president, Comrade Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, acknowledging his dedication to advancing local government administration.

This collaboration between the Kano State Government and NULGE aims to enhance grassroots governance and development in the state.
