Kate Henshaw Reacts to Reinstatement of Former National Anthem

Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has expressed her discontent over the reinstatement of Nigeria’s former national anthem, following President Bola Tinubu’s signing of the National Anthem Bill 2024.

The President’s action has sparked widespread outrage among Nigerians, who feel that the government is neglecting pressing economic issues.

Taking to her X page, Henshaw criticized the decision, highlighting the severe economic hardships and lack of good governance affecting the country. She sarcastically suggested that reverting to the colonial-era anthem would somehow cure the nation’s problems and instill a sense of patriotism.

“In the midst of excoriating hardship & lack of good governance on every level, but not to worry,” Henshaw wrote. “Going back to a colonial anthem will be a soothing balm and inject patriotism back into our veins, a much-needed drug. The labour of our heroes past… O ti lo.”

Her post garnered various reactions:

– Michael commented: “What do you expect from a government that had no plans? They are just catching cruise and enjoying the moment.”
– Stardudefire added: “Misplaced priorities.”
– David Brand, MD, humorously noted: “Dem wan woye us 🤣🤣🤣🤣.”
– Adams remarked: “Nigerians are patriotic, but our politicians are not. We should be planning for the next election because it’s obvious this government has no bearing.”
– PapaKing73 wrote: “Just maybe we’ll have one week in which our government won’t let us down. Until then, they should feature Nigerian artists on the new national anthem, and maybe I’ll try to sing it. 🥺.”

The decision to reinstate the old anthem has further fueled dissatisfaction among citizens, who are calling for more substantial governance reforms to address the nation’s challenges.
