Comrade Kennedy Iyere, a prominent humanitarian and philanthropist, has officially withdrawn from the 2024 Edo Gubernatorial Race as the Accord Party candidate. Citing internal party conflicts and his desire to serve Nigeria on a broader scale, Iyere announced his decision to step away from the election, which is just days away.
Iyere had previously presented a large-scale food intervention program, the “Food4All Initiative,” to President Tinubu. This initiative aims to address Nigeria’s food insecurity and create mass employment through the “One-Family-One-Farmer Scheme.”
His withdrawal comes amid internal Accord Party disputes, including an alleged plot by his running mate, Bright Enabulele, to overturn his candidacy. Despite the political tensions, Iyere urged Edo State voters to avoid violence and vote based on conscience, stressing the importance of equitable power rotation among the Senatorial Districts.
Focusing on national development, Iyere plans to work closely with the federal government, launching social intervention programs in October 2024. These initiatives aim to create over six million youth and women entrepreneurs, addressing unemployment and poverty through entrepreneurship opportunities in agriculture, technology, and entertainment.
By stepping down, Iyere shifts his focus from the gubernatorial seat to national service, emphasizing his commitment to rebuilding Nigeria’s economic greatness.
