Kogi Council Chairmen Urged to Embrace Transparency and Good Governance Under Ododo

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The Kogi State Auditor General for Local Government, Hon. Yakubu Adabenege Siyaka, has called on the newly elected local council chairmen and the Directors of Local Government (DLGs) to follow the example set by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo in embracing transparency, accountability, and good governance.

Hon. Adabenege made the call in Lokoja during a maiden meeting with the newly elected chairmen, DLGs, and treasurers, where he emphasized the importance of financial discipline and adherence to financial regulations.

The meeting was held in the wake of the local government autonomy granted by the Federal Government, which Kogi State had already implemented under the administration of former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello.

In his address, Hon. Adabenege stressed the need for financial responsibility and transparency, urging the local government officials to follow established financial guidelines. He encouraged them to prioritize accountability and ensure that funds are used efficiently.

According to the Director for Audit Services, the purpose of the meeting was to ensure that local governments manage their finances responsibly and in line with established procedures. He emphasized that compliance with these financial guidelines is crucial for maintaining transparency and fostering good governance.

The Auditor General also encouraged the officials to make the most of the local government autonomy to drive development and progress in the state, while fostering a harmonious relationship between the chairmen and civil servants.

Hon. Olokun Tosin, the Chairman of Yagba East, who also serves as the ALGON chairman of the state, thanked Hon. Adabenege for the informative session. He promised to uphold the guidance provided, stating that the best way to support Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s work in his local government area was to deliver good governance to the people.

Mr. Aliyu Musa, the DLG of Lokoja and Chairman of the Association of DLGs and Treasurers of Kogi State, also commended Hon. Adabenege for his proactive approach, adding that the state was pleased with their choice in electing Governor Ododo.
