Kogi Government Moves to Resolve Telecom Disputes Over Fibre-Optic Infrastructure

The Kogi State Government says it has taken concrete steps to resolve long-standing disputes with telecommunication companies over the laying and protection of fibre-optic infrastructure across the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed this after a stakeholders’ meeting in Lokoja, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.Fanwo said the engagement marked a significant breakthrough in addressing recurring disagreements between the state and telecom operators over critical infrastructure.

He also commended telecommunications companies for their contributions to the state’s security and economic development.The meeting was convened by the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Mohammed Ahovi Yusuf, who chairs the state’s Infrastructure Team. It brought together representatives of the Federal Ministry of Works, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), major telecommunication companies, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and the Kogi State Utility Infrastructure Management and Compliance Agency.

According to officials, discussions focused on establishing a clear framework for collaboration, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure protection. Participants agreed on operational guidelines aimed at improving coordination, preventing overlaps, and ensuring infrastructure deployment aligns with state regulations.

The Kogi State Commandant of the NSCDC, Olumide Aletan, pledged the agency’s continued commitment to protecting critical national and state assets, including telecom facilities.Telecommunication company representatives welcomed the outcome and pledged to adhere to the agreed modalities to ensure smooth cooperation and sustainable infrastructure development in Kogi State.
