Kwara, FCT, Plateau shine at North Central zonal prelims

Hosts Kwara and FCT have both qualified for the male football event of the 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) tagged “Edo 2020”.

FCT came first after beating Kwara 1-0 on Thursday at the ongoing North Central zonal elimination prelims in Ilorin.

Kwara had earlier beaten Plateau on Thursday 1-0 to book a place in the prelims.

Kwara also picked the female ticket, being the only state that registered for the event.

FCT won the male handball event and they have also qualified alongside Niger, while Plateau picked the first ticket with Kwara in second place to also book a place in Edo 2020.

In cricket, only Kwara registered for the male event while FCT and Kogi got the female tickets.

Kwara came first in the male basketball with Plateau finishing second, while only Nasarawa State entered for the female event.

Niger had the upper hand in male beach volleyball event, thereby qualifying alongside FCT while Plateau and Niger grabbed the tickets in the female event.

In female volleyball, Plateau and Niger State booked a place for Edo 2020 while power outage disrupted the male finals, leaving it inclusive.

As at the time the power supply went off, Plateau were leading hosts Kwara 2-0, after the first set ended 25-23 and the second 25-23.

The match is billed to be concluded on Friday morning.(NAN)
