Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has declared tomorrow, Friday October 8 as Work-free day through out the State

In a state-wide broadcast Thursday, Gov Lalong said the holiday is to enable people travel to their respective local government areas to cast their votes in Saturday’s local councils elections.

Lalong said the State Independent Electoral Commission, PLASIEC, has assured of its readiness and adequate preparations to hold the elections as scheduled as it has briefed and engaged the security agencies to provide adequate security.

The governor, who apparently shunned calls from a cross section of the citizens to postpone the elections because of fragile security, warned those he described as positioning themselves to use the elections to cause trouble and perpetrated violence to steer clear as the security agents have been briefed to deal decisively with such situation.

Lalong said only those on essential duties will be allowed to move around on elections day, as movement on that has been restricted between the hours of 8am to 4pm.

He urged the citizens to embrace peace ahead of the elections, and called on them to come out and vote candidates of their choice without any fear of harassment or intimidation.
