The member representing Oluyole Federal Constituency, Tolulope Akande-Sadipe, has expressed profound grief over the death of the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga, describing it as a devastating loss to the 10th National Assembly and Nigeria.

In a heartfelt condolence message issued in Abuja on Tuesday, Akande-Sadipe shared her sorrow, emphasizing the deep bond they shared as colleagues and the profound impact of Onanuga’s contributions to the legislature and the country.

“Words fail me, and my heart is heavy as I write this,” she stated. “The news of the passing of Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, fondly known as ‘Ijaya,’ has shaken me deeply. She was not just a colleague but a sister in the shared struggles we both faced, both politically and personally.”

Akande-Sadipe paid tribute to the late lawmaker as a fearless and brilliant figure who tirelessly advocated for women and her constituents. “She was a trailblazer in the fight for equality, a source of inspiration, and a pillar for women in politics,” she said, adding that Onanuga’s passion and resilience left an indelible mark on the National Assembly and beyond.

Reflecting on their relationship, Akande-Sadipe recounted cherished moments with her late colleague, including shared challenges and triumphs in their journey as women leaders. She described Onanuga as a warrior whose nickname, “Ijaya,” aptly captured her fearless spirit.

“Our bonding time in France created unforgettable memories, and your visit to me in October now feels like a final goodbye. You fought valiantly, lived passionately, and left an indelible mark on us all,” she said.

The lawmaker extended her condolences to Onanuga’s family, loved ones, and the broader legislative community, acknowledging the void her passing has created. “May God, in His infinite mercy, grant her eternal rest and comfort her family and all who mourn her loss,” she concluded.

Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga will be remembered as a champion for women, a dedicated public servant, and a beacon of strength and courage in Nigeria’s political landscape.
