The Defence Headquarters has reported significant gains in military operations nationwide over the past week, with 106 terrorists neutralized and 103 apprehended.
According to Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, troops also arrested 22 individuals involved in oil theft and rescued 96 kidnapped victims. Additionally, 171 assorted weapons and 2,452 rounds of ammunition were recovered during the operations.
The recovered arsenal includes various firearms such as AK47 rifles, pump-action rifles, locally fabricated guns, pistols, and grenades, among others. Furthermore, troops seized vehicles, motorcycles, mobile phones, radios, and a sum of money during the operations.
In the North East, Operation Hadin Kai troops neutralized 38 Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, rescued 16 hostages, and recovered arms and ammunition. Additionally, 46 terrorists surrendered to troops within the theatre of operations.
In the North Central, Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke eliminated seven violent extremists, apprehended 27, and rescued eight kidnapped hostages while recovering weapons.
In the North West, Operation Hadarin Daji troops neutralized 31 terrorists, arrested 13, rescued 56 hostages, and recovered arms and ammunition. Operation Whirl Punch apprehended nine extremists/terrorists and rescued 19 kidnap victims.
In the Niger Delta, Operation Delta Safe destroyed 40 illegal refining sites, seized stolen crude oil and petroleum products, and recovered various equipment used in illegal refining activities.
In the South East, Operation UDO KA uncovered and destroyed an IED factory in Anambra while rescuing kidnap victims and recovering a vehicle in Enugu North Land.
However, the report also noted the loss of 16 Nigerian Army operatives in an ambush in Delta State. These soldiers, part of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, were on a peacekeeping mission to quell community clashes in Bomadi Local Government when the incident occurred.
