N1B needed to reactivate water stations in A’Ibom- Etuk

By Ogenyi Ogenyi,Uyo

Atleast one billion naira is needed to reactivate the 29 the water stations across Akwa Ibom, General Manager, Akwa Ibom Water Company, Mr Edoho Etuk has said.

Etuk who disclosed this recently while interacting with Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Media members in Uyo said however that the state government has approved funds to reactivate five out of the 29 stations scattered over 15 Local Councils of the state.

The GM regretted that the five stations were epileptically working at the moment and expressed confidence that the remaining 24 stations would also recieve attention with the coming on board of the ministry of water and sanitation.

The water company boss said the decision by government to reactivate the five stations was part of the measures to strengthen water infrastructure in the state

“I believe very strongly that we cannot leave a 15 billion naira investment or should I say assets and allow it to rut. We need to revive those stations.”

He opined that with the water law in place and the creation of the new ministry, the water sector will receive a boost adding that,”we have a high level of prospect on the water industry.”
