The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has passed a unanimous vote of confidence on the President of the Association, Comrade Ladi Bala and her Central Working Committee (CWC) members.
The confidence vote, which came during Saturday’s online NEC Meeting on Zoom platform, was sealed by a motion by the Chairperson of Plateau State Chapter of NAWOJ, Nene Dung, as duly seconded by her Cross River State counterpart, Umo Bassey Edet, following the various achievements the national leadership of NAWOJ has recorded since 2020.
The President of NAWOJ, Bala, had briefed the NEC in session on her administration’s achievements since she took over the leadership of the Association in November 2020, maintaining that she had delivered on all her electioneering campaign promises and more.
Bala enumerated her achievements to include making NAWOJ to be visible, thus boosting the image of the Association; series of trainings for members across States in different zones of the country to build their capacities; development of NAWOJ Policies such as the Administrative and Procurement Policy, Finance Policy, Board Manual, Gender Policy, HR and Travel Policy, and the SHEA Policy; as well as securing an office accommodation in Abuja for the National Secretariat of the Association and the employment of two staff for the office.
These were in addition to partnership with ActionAid Nigeria and project launch of its Women’s Voices and Leadership (WVL) project in the FCT; partnerships with other local and international donor organizations as the UN Women, SHE Forum Africa, Pathfinders International, etc, and; production of a new national uniform; a functional NAWOJ Board of Trustees; and a plot of land in Abuja for the construction of NAWOJ permanent national secretariat complex, etc.
Bala had said that she dedicated her success stories to the NEC Members, who supported and stood by her in the last three years to make her various programmes and activities a huge success.
In view of her excellent performance in office, the NEC members congratulated her for a job well done, noting that she has justified the confidence reposed on her during her election at the 10th National Triennial Delegates Conference of NAWOJ in 2020 at Minna, Niger State capital.
In their brief reactions, a number of the NEC members expressed their satisfaction with Comrade Bala’s leadership qualities, particularly her doggedness, focus, zeal to transform the Association, sense of responsibility, passion for women development issues which, they noted, all culminated in her achievements in office, describing those achievements as unprecedented, and wished her well.
High point of the NEC Meeting was the nomination of one member, per zone, to serve in the Credentials Committee for the forthcoming National Triennial Delegates Conference of the Association, which is due in the month of November this year.
The NEC is the highest decision making arm of the Association and is made up of all the national officers serving in the Central Working Committee (CWC) as well as all Chairpersons and Secretaries of State Chapters of NAWOJ in the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
