NBA Reserved One Week For The Professional Development Of Lawyers In Sokoto

At the opening ceremony, the state Attorney-General Nasiru Muhammad ESQ pointed out to guest and his colleaques that observing or celebrating the Law week is not a mere ceremonial event.

He said the ceremony ought to and is actually a week full of activities that offer us the opportunity to take stock of the outgoing legal year and our professional responsibility as individual legal practitioners and as an Association.

“It provides a forum for lawyers to interact with their brothers on the judicial divide; identify where there are challenges and proffer solutions to matters affecting the legal profession and the administration of justice as a whole.

“It is also a week reserved for the professional development of lawyers through various paper presentations and robust discussions by seasoned personalities on matters affecting the legal profession and other fields that affect our lives as citizens. Invariably, the theme of this year’s Law week says it all”.

He similarly assured that the Law week this year will also be another memorable event in the annals of the Nigerian Bar Association Sokoto Branch judging from the list of activities earmarked during the week.

However, Barrister Nasir informed his learned colleagues, that the administration of His Excellency, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, Ph. D FCNA is fully committed to respect for and assuring the independence of the judiciary in Sokoto state.

He further said this administration has not and will not in any manner interfere with the administrative and judicial functions of the judiciary. Since its inception, the administration of His Excellency has ensured uninterrupted and timeous flow of all the finances of the judiciary.

“I therefore count on the NBA to support the administration of His Excellency, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, in achieving this noble aim, as it is also the commitment of the Governor to upholding the Rule of Law and administration of justice in the State. Indeed, His Excellency has taken various steps towards actualizing this commitment by creating enabling environment for seamless relations between the Executive and the Judicial arms of Government.

Similarly, the administration of His Excellency is presently taking steps towards improving the welfare of Law Officers in the Ministry of Justice and providing them with appropriate working tools and atmosphere.

The Ministry of Justice is on course to achieving improvement from what we inherited. We very much count on the support of both the Bar and the Bench in attaining this noble objective.

Before l conclude, let me single out for appreciation, their Lordships, the Honorable Chief Judge of Sokoto State and Hon. Justices of the Court of Appeal, Sokoto Division, for the tremendous support given to the Bar.

“Your Lordships, your support for the Bar is immense and very commendable.

I also commend and appreciate my brother, the Chairman of NBA Sokoto Branch, Muhammad Nuhu Esq. for the foresight in ensuring that this Law week 2024 becomes reality.

“My commendation also goes to the leadership and members of the Law Week Organising Committee in seeing that the event is successful and hitch-free”.

The ceremony has in attendance political office holders, associates and colleagues, Grand Khadis, security personnels,traditional rulers, Judges, Benchers as well as friends and well wishers among others.
