By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has granted full accreditation to 27 additional programmes at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, as announced by the institution’s Rector, Prof. Salisu Usman Ogbo, during the 32nd matriculation ceremony held on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Ogbo disclosed that the Polytechnic is matriculating 6,549 students for the 2024/2025 academic session across eight schools and 57 programmes.

He highlighted that the newly accredited programmes were approved following an institutional accreditation and resource inspection by the NBTE. With this development, the Polytechnic now has full accreditation for all its programmes, with no courses under interim or denied status.

> “As it stands today, there is no programme with denied or interim accreditation status in Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja. All our programmes are fully accredited, and the newly introduced programmes have been granted approval to commence,” Prof. Ogbo stated.

The Rector celebrated the institution’s consistent success, noting that in 2022, the Polytechnic also achieved a 100% success rate when it presented 30 programmes for reaccreditation.

He added that 19 out of the 57 programmes currently offered at the Polytechnic were introduced under his administration, representing 33.3% of the total.

Prof. Ogbo also announced that graduates from the Departments of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Surveying and Geo-Informatics, Architectural Technology, and Building Technology can now pursue advanced studies at their alma mater, thanks to the institution’s progress in academic excellence.

Warning Against Religious Intolerance

The Rector emphasized the institution’s zero-tolerance policy towards religious fanaticism and violence, warning that any acts of incitement would be met with strict sanctions.

Commendation for Support

Prof. Ogbo commended the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his commitment to the Polytechnic’s development, particularly for fencing the Itakpe Campus and installing CCTV cameras for improved security.

He also expressed gratitude to the immediate past Governor, Alhaji (Dr.) Yahaya Adoza Bello, for his contributions to ensuring a stable academic calendar across state-owned tertiary institutions.

The matriculation ceremony served as a significant milestone for Kogi State Polytechnic, reinforcing its reputation as a hub for technical and academic excellence.
