NDLEA destroys 9, 110.252 Kg drugs Exhibits in Abia

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abia State, has publicly destroyed 9,110.252 kilograms.

The quantity of seized drugs destroyed is made of 6,574.116 kilograms of Cannabis, 10.81kg of Heroin, 8.932 kg of Cocaine and 2,516.394 kg of psychotropic substances.

Speaking during the public destruction of the drugs exhibits at the Command Office in Aba, the Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdullah be (Rtd.) said the Agency is elated that this quantity of drugs was intercepted and not allowed into circulation because the havoc it would have wrecked on the people of the state is better imagined than experienced .

He maintained that, Drugs like Poison need not to be in Large volumes before doing incalculable damage, he noted that the society must do everything to ensure that the entrepreneurial heritage of Abia people don’t come under the threat of drugs abuse and illicit trafficking of Drugs.

The NDLEA Boss, said the proliferation of clandestine laboratories for the manufacturing of Methamphetamine is worrisome to the Agency, he noted that, methamphetamine laboratories are becoming common place and not all the poisonous substances that are produced locally are exported; this has led to the emergence of local market for Methamphetamine thereby leading to the abuse of of the dangerous substances by the youths.

Also speaking, the Abia State Commander of the agency , Mr Bamidele Akingbade said the exhibit destruction exercise by officers and men of the command provides the state with the unique opportunity to prove to the public the extent of successes recorded in our counter narcotics operation in the state.
