The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted rumors suggesting the launch of a new jersey design for the Men’s National Team in preparation for the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to commence in Cote d’Ivoire in January 2024.
On Thursday, images of a purported vintage jersey design circulated widely on the internet, with several media outlets reporting that Nike, the official jersey manufacturer for Nigeria’s national team, had unveiled it.
A statement from the NFF addressed the speculations: “Rumors about a new jersey launch between NIKE and the senior Men’s National team circulating on social media have been brought to our notice. We want to inform the general public that this claim is not true. At the moment, we have no jersey being launched for the Super Eagles for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to hold in Cote d’Ivoire next month.”
Italian Football Federation to Impose Ban on European Super League Affiliated Clubs
In a related development, the Italian Football Federation (FGIC) has implemented a clause that will prohibit clubs associated with the European Super League from participating in the Italian Serie A starting from the 2024-2025 season.
The European Super League, introduced in April 2021 with twelve top European clubs expressing interest, including Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Juventus, faced significant backlash within 72 hours. Fan protests and opposition from FIFA, UEFA, and domestic football federations led to its collapse. Juventus, the last club associated with the plan, later withdrew.
The sponsors of the European Super League, A22 Sports, continued to pursue legalization through a top European court, alongside Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
