Nigeria at 64: Lawmaker Calls for Increased Selfless Service from Leaders

****

Akinlayo Kolawole, a member of the National Assembly representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency II, has emphasized the need for greater selflessness and sacrifices from Nigerian leaders to enhance the country’s development.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, coinciding with Nigeria’s 64th independence celebration, Kolawole asserted that the development of the nation should be a shared responsibility, transcending political affiliations and backgrounds.

He urged all Nigerians to prioritize the nation’s interests over personal agendas, saying, “The country needs selflessness, sacrifices, and sincerity, especially from our leaders and politicians, for it to progress steadily.”

Reflecting on Nigeria’s independence, he noted that this milestone is an opportunity for introspection and evaluation of the nation’s past and present to guide future progress. “Our commitment to expediting Nigeria’s development is essential; therefore, we must all work together to build a thriving society,” he stated.

Kolawole acknowledged the contributions of both past and present leaders, particularly President Bola Tinubu, to the nation’s development and unity. He extended congratulations to Nigerians on the 64th anniversary and to the people of Ekiti on the state’s 28th anniversary, urging them to pray for their leaders.

He commended Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his outstanding leadership, particularly in fostering inclusive governance, which has promoted both economic and political stability. Additionally, Kolawole recognized the vital role of religious leaders in praying for the unity and progress of Nigeria and encouraged them to continue their efforts.
