A Nigerian non-league clubside, Garden City Panthers Football Club of Abuja, on Monday said it has engaged the services of two Portuguese coaches.
Robinson Adakosa, the club’s chairman, told newsmen in Ilorin that the coaches include Manuel Matias, a former defender in the Portuguese league, as Head Coach.
Matias played 272 games in 13 seasons in the Primeira Liga for Salgueiros, Vitória de Guimarães, União da Madeira, Leça, Gil Vicente, Vitória de Setúbal and Porto.
The 55-year-old made his Primeira Liga debut for Salgueiros on March 13, 1983 in a game against Porto.
Matias, who holds a UEFA Pro-Licence, has managed some clubs in Portugal, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Adakosa added that Matias would be assisted by another Portuguese, Pereira Taborda, who holds a UEFA B-Licence.
Taborda has worked in Vianense, Pedras Salgadas, Naval, Almancilense, Antalyaspor, Leixões, Operario dos Açores as a coach.
“The coaches are expected to assume duties in February,’’ Adakosa said.(NAN)
