NSCDC Uncovers Illegal Refinery in Rivers State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad has dismantled an illegal refining site containing over 100,000 litres of stolen crude oil in Adobe settlement, Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State.

Dandaura Appolos, Commander of the Special Intelligence Squad, credited the success to credible intelligence indicating that suspects had vandalized a multinational company’s wellhead. The suspects reportedly used galvanized metal pipes and large hoses to siphon and locally process the crude oil.

In a statement on Saturday, NSCDC Spokesman Babawale Afolabi detailed the operation, stating that the squad acted promptly on the information, uncovering several sites with significant illegal refining activities.

“We value and protect our informants, and the information received is always treated with caution and prompt alertness,” Afolabi said. “As soon as we arrived, the suspects fled, but we were able to arrest one Godspower Oyibo, a 32-year-old from Delta State, who is now assisting us with further investigation.”

At the crime scene, authorities found reservoirs cemented with trampoline and filled with approximately 100,000 litres of crude oil. Other exhibits included a yellow Robin EY 20 pumping machine, galvanized metal pipes, long hoses, a vandalized wellhead, calibrated surface tanks, processed AGO in cooking pots, and metal buckets.
