Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged state governors to emulate Abia State’s Alex Otti and halt the payment of pensions to former governors, describing the practice as outrageous and akin to daylight robbery.
Speaking during a visit to Otti’s residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, Obasanjo commended Otti for repealing the pension scheme, urging other governors to do the same.
Congratulating Otti for his courage, Obasanjo emphasized the importance of good leadership and infrastructure development in achieving progress for the state.
Otti, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, thanked Obasanjo for supporting the decision to repeal the law, emphasizing that leadership entails stewardship, not exploitation.
The Abia State House of Assembly repealed the pension law, which previously provided various benefits for former governors, following a bill sponsored by Majority Leader Okoro Uchenna Kalu.
