Olympic: Ban of Puma kits for Nigeria athletes will backfire

…as Nigeria will lose $5

By Mike Oboh

The decision to stop Nigeria’s athletes from using the Puma kits during this year’s Olympic Games will not only set back the country in her quest to benefit from commercial benefits associated with such deals.

The first vice president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Mr. Sunday Adeleye told our correspondent in an interview that the country stand to lose from the contract as well as pay obligatory fees built into the contract.

Adeleye said it was unfortunate that the sports ministry was working against the interest of the country by stopping the athletes from using the kits as whatever political interest they have should not be the yardstick to address corporate relations with the kit manufacturer.

He said that the kit contract worth 2.7 million Dollars was signed by the federation with Puma and the body was in control of the latest kit, it got from Puma for the game.

He the country stand to lose close to five million dollars as bleach of contract if the case takes a legal demission, this, he  said was not the best for the country, experiencing economic downturn.

He said when the board was told to source for funds from private sector, they got  deal which was signed to the notice of Nigerians.
