The Federal Capital Territory Administration , FCTA, Task Force on Monday, seized at least 280 vehicles, motorcycles and tricycles to curb the prevalence of crime in Abuja.
Speaking after the “operation sweep ” exercise, the Director, Department of Security Services FCT Administration, Adamu Gwary said that the vehicles were impounded for involving in crime in the capital territory.
Gwary who spoke through Peter Olumuji disclosed that over 40 vehicles were impounded for traffic offences and erring in area of registration.
The “operation sweep” raids, was carried out around the bustling Area 3 Junction, Area 1 Roundabout, and the AYA Roundabout.
He explained that that over two hundred commercial motorcycles were apprehended for aiding criminal elements through route violation.
Also,more than 40 tricycles popularly known as Keke Napep have also been impounded by the team, he added.
According to Gwary, the “Operation Sweep”, is a multi-agency anti-crime squad endorsed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, as he assured that it will continue to ensure that all nuisances and all forms of crimes within the territory are tackled.
However, he stated that Abuja being one of the safest places to reside in the country, is the reason why for the influx of and migration of people with questionable characters, with negative challenges.
Further he said that all arrested persons, including beggers and destitutes will be profiled.
Gwary said that these mop- up measures will help douse the crime rate within Abuja.
FCT residents have been asking for this, now they are happy that this kind of operation has started, and it’s giving positive results, he said.
