The Oyo State government has initiated a concrete pavement project on the Zion Plaza-Olusoji Road, which connects to the Alao-Akala Expressway in Ibadan. This decision follows damage caused by floods to the existing asphalt surface at the culvert approaches.
During a recent inspection, Mr. Busoye Ogunlade, Chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA), announced the completion of rigid pavement construction at the two Olusoji cross culvert approaches. He emphasized that reinforced concrete technology would prevent future pavement failures stemming from floods and prolonged neglect.
Ogunlade noted that concrete roads have demonstrated longevity in various states, significantly outlasting asphalt surfaces. He praised the quality of work on the 145-meter road section, assuring residents of a permanent solution.
“We have notified the public, especially motorists, commuters, residents, and road users along the Zion Plaza-Olusoji avenue, about the rigid pavement construction at the Olusoji cross culvert approaches,” Ogunlade said. The project took two weeks, with an additional four-week curing period.
As a result, the road will temporarily close from Saturday, September 28, 2024, to Saturday, November 9, 2024. Ogunlade urged commuters to utilize alternative routes during this period and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused.
