The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has condemned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for allegedly engaging in “unnecessary personal attacks” instead of addressing critical issues affecting the state.
The PDP’s reaction follows a statement by Hon. Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule, accusing the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate, Hon. David Ombugadu, of refusing to accept electoral defeat.
In a counterstatement on Tuesday, PDP Chairman Adamu Bako Ninga dismissed Ahemba’s remarks as “propaganda devoid of substance.” He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to challenging the 2023 governorship election results through legal means.
“The APC’s so-called landslide victory does not reflect the realities on the ground,” Ninga said. “The election was riddled with irregularities, voter suppression, and anti-democratic practices, which form the basis of our appeal at the election tribunal.”
Ninga also refuted allegations that the PDP used a recent wedding in Nakuse, Toto Local Government Area, as a campaign platform, labeling the claim as a *”desperate diversionary tactic.”* He noted that communal events often serve as avenues for leaders to engage with citizens.
“It is not unusual for people to discuss governance and their welfare at communal gatherings. If the APC finds this inappropriate, they should focus on addressing the governance lapses that necessitate these discussions,” he added.
The PDP further accused the APC of hypocrisy, alleging that the ruling party has already begun early campaigns for the 2027 elections through billboards and public events designed to influence public opinion.
“They accuse us of desperation, yet their actions violate the same electoral laws they claim to uphold. It’s both laughable and hypocritical,” Ninga said.
He dismissed claims of “massive development”* under Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration, pointing to challenges in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and security as evidence of governance failures.
“The much-touted Nasarawa Economic Development Strategy (NEDS) has yet to deliver tangible benefits to the people. Instead of fixating on Ombugadu and the PDP, the APC should focus on fulfilling their campaign promises,” Ninga emphasized.
The PDP leader urged Governor Sule to move beyond “petty politics” and focus on constructive governance.
“Our desire is for Nasarawa State to achieve its full potential. The people deserve better than divisive rhetoric and baseless accusations,” he said, reiterating the PDP’s commitment to advocating for citizens’ welfare and ensuring their votes are respected.
