Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang Officially Resigns from PDP

Israel Adamu, Jos

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the need for a political platform that better aligns with his vision for the state. In a letter dated December 29, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of his Ampang West Ward, Dasjak Sunday Longyol, Governor Mutfwang expressed gratitude to the party for providing him a platform to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process. The letter, obtained by our correspondent in Jos, emphasized that the decision was driven by Mutfwang’s commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and effective service delivery.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the governor stated in the letter, which he personally signed. He further expressed appreciation for the support of PDP leaders, members, and supporters, saying, “I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process. I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.”

The resignation marks a significant political development in Plateau State, coming amid growing calls for alternative leadership platforms that can accelerate development and ensure responsive governance. Political analysts suggest that Mutfwang’s departure from the PDP could trigger realignments within the state’s political landscape ahead of upcoming electoral cycles. While the governor did not specify the new political platform he intends to join, his move is widely seen as an effort to create space for strategic political initiatives aimed at enhancing governance and service delivery in Plateau State.

Governor Mutfwang’s exit underscores a broader trend of political mobility in Nigeria, where leaders seek platforms that align with their developmental agendas and public service priorities. As the state watches for his next political step, stakeholders anticipate statements from both the PDP and other major political parties on potential realignments.
