By Abigail Philip David

The Nigeria Police Force has made significant strides in its fight against crime, successfully dismantling an illegal weapons manufacturing factory in Benue State, apprehending a notorious cultist in Delta State, and arresting two murder suspects in Kebbi State.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, detailed these operations in a statement released on Friday.

According to the statement, on January 11, 2025, police operatives in Benue State raided an illegal weapons factory in Tse Akamabe, Kwande Local Government Area. During the operation, two suspects, Friday Aduduakambe and Iorwashima Iornyume (alias “AK”), were arrested.

Recovered from the factory were nine locally fabricated pistols, one unfinished locally made AK-47 rifle, two gas cylinders, four vise machines, a filing machine, and various tools used for producing weapons.

In a separate operation, Delta State police officers, acting on credible intelligence, raided the residence of Prosper Akeni, a notorious hitman for the Eiye confraternity in the DSC area. Akeni was arrested, and a large cache of weapons was seized, including:
– One English revolver pistol
– One Beretta pistol
– Two locally made double-barrel guns
– Two locally made single-barrel guns
– One locally made revolver pistol
– One locally made single-barrel pistol
– 25 rounds of ammunition

Akeni confessed that the firearms belonged to his cult group and that he was entrusted with them as the group’s top-ranking member.

Additionally, in Kebbi State, police operatives arrested two suspects in connection with separate murder cases. On December 31, 2024, Yunusa Haruna was taken into custody for fatally stabbing his elder brother, Isiyaku Haruna, in Shanga Local Government Area. In another incident on January 8, 2025, Abubakar Ummar was arrested in Zuru Village for stabbing Mohammed Bala to death during a dispute.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the police officers involved in these successful operations and urged them to intensify their efforts to uphold law and order nationwide.

He also called on the public to stay vigilant and share credible information with law enforcement to strengthen community-based policing.
