President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to consolidating and strengthening the reform-oriented policies of former President Muhammadu Buhari in delivering the dividends of democracy, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to a press statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen, the President gave the assurance during the launch of a book titled According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesman’s Experience, authored by Mallam Garba Shehu, former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Buhari. The event took place in Abuja.
Represented at the occasion by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, President Tinubu acknowledged the immense efforts of his predecessor in nation-building and pledged to build on the reforms initiated during his tenure.
“The efforts of one administration lay the foundation for the next. In this regard, I acknowledge the efforts of my predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari, and assure all Nigerians that the reform-oriented path he initiated will be consolidated and strengthened under this administration. Our Renewed Hope Agenda is inspired by the desire to build a resilient, just, and inclusive Nigeria—one that delivers the dividends of democracy to all its citizens,” the President said.
Commending the author, Tinubu described the book as a valuable resource for public communicators, policymakers, scholars, historians, and the general public. He praised former President Buhari as a leader who governed with integrity, accountability, prudence, and patriotism, adding that his administration made significant progress in combating insecurity and boosting infrastructure development.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion and former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, commended President Buhari for his unwavering integrity and dedication in tackling the many challenges he inherited, particularly in the area of national security. He also lauded the Nigerian Army for its sacrifices in the fight against insurgency and in defending the nation’s territorial integrity.
In his remarks, the immediate past Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, highlighted the journey of the author from journalism to serving as Presidential Spokesperson, noting his professionalism and ability to navigate complex communication challenges.
The immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, also spoke at the event. He noted that Garba Shehu’s rise from campaign spokesperson to Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity was based on merit, given his outstanding record in the media industry. He added that the book—structured in three parts: the introduction, the legacy of revolutionary and exemplary leadership, and President Buhari’s legacy from 2015 to 2023—captures the life and contributions of President Buhari, marked by discipline, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to national development.
