DIG Egbetokun Olukayode Adeolu, the Acting Inspector General of Police, was born on September 4, 1964, in Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State. He joined the Nigeria Police Force on March 3, 1990, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

In 1999, he assumed the position of Chief Security Officer to the Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu. Throughout his career, he has held various notable positions, including Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos, Squadron Commander of Mopol 5 in Benin City, Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Fraud Unit at the FCT Command in Abuja, Chief Superintendent of Police in the Administration department at Lagos State Command Headquarters in Ikeja, and Area Commander in Osogbo, Osun State Command, as well as in Gusau, Zamfara State Command.

Before joining the police force, Egbetokun graduated in June 1987 with a degree in Mathematics from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). He briefly lectured Mathematics at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos. He further pursued his academic journey, earning an MSC in Engineering Analysis from the University of Lagos in 1996. He also obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, Abraka, in 2000, and an MBA from Lagos State University, Ojo, in 2004.

In addition to his academic achievements, he holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Petroleum Economics from Delta State University, Abraka, and an MBA from Lagos State University, Ojo.

On September 29, 2020, he was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police and was assigned to Kwara State. In September 2022, he was further promoted to Assistant Inspector General of Police and deployed to Zone 7 (Abuja). Finally, on March 29, 2023, he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police and deployed to the FCID (Force Criminal Investigation Department).
