Senator Dino Melaye was born in Kano, but an indigene of Kogi State in the North Central Nigeria. He is blessed with three children, two sons and a daughter (Asiwaju, Kimbati and Gbotemi)

Senator Dino Melaye started his first school in Ijeoma Memorial primary school in Kano State. He later proceeded to Abdul-Aziz memorial college, Okene in the present kogi state, where he completed his secondary education. He had a stint with Yasinco sweet company in kano city before gaining admission into Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in Kaduna State, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Geography.

Senator Dino Melaye possesses a distinct and robust personality attuned for leadership. He was the head boy, both in his primary and secondary days; a student union leader as an undergraduate at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, before heading the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) as its president. After that he became the Secretary General of African Youth Council and then that of the Common Wealth Youth Council.

He won the African youth of the year award, among many other citizens of 54 competing Commonwealth countries in 2005 after which he was appointed by President Olusegun Obasanjo to chair the Presidential Advisory Council on Youths.

In addition, senator Dino Melaye is extremely industrious, disciplined, determined, exemplary, intelligent, frank, in life. He is also empathetic and people centered which reinforces his leadership capabilities. Dino Melaye is also a good listener, receptive, a fast learner and communicates articulately which is a requisite for dealing with people at different levels and from dissimilar backgrounds.

These make for his creativity, adaptability with an eye for detail in whatever he sets out to accomplish individually or as a boundary agent intermediating the people, he represents and the government.

These attributes elucidate the Senator’s political, social, and his commitment to the less privileged. As a human activist and public analyst he is a promoter of good governance and believes all destinies can be fulfilled if individuals are dedicated to the pursuit of their personal and group goals when requisite support is provided.

As a result of his immense leadership role and achievements, Senator Dino Melaye has being conferred with a number of traditional titles which include – Otunba of Bunu Kingdom, Aragundade of Ogaji Amuro, Olugbayi of Gbede, Gberuro of Ogidi, Ariwajoye of Ekinrin Adde, Asiwaju of Oke-Offin, Olugbeye of Aiyetoro-Gbede, Oluamofin of Okaro-Gbede, Alutushe of Oke-bukun and Bologunwe of Obajana.

Senator Dino Melaye’s personality and achievements have resulted in the receipt of numerous national and international awards, which include:

Senator Dino Melaye was a member of the 6th Assembly as a member Federal House of Representatives, representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency where he served as the Chairman House Committee on Information and National Orientation.

The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District is currently the Chairman Senate Committee on FCT. He has adversely proven critics wrong following his activities in the legislative chamber as well as human development.

Barely a year in office, Senator Dino constructed and renovated over 120 boreholes across his constituency, covering seven Local Government Areas and in 2017/2018 influenced over 148 capital projects all over the senatorial District.

As a legislator in the 8th Senate, Dino Melaye has the highest number of Bills and Motions in the history of the National Assembly, having over 16 Bills to his credit as well as over 25 motions. His contributions at the floor of the house has no match, this reflects in his ability to lobby his way through especially on matters that can positively impact his constituents.

And in a keenly contested election on February 23, 2019, Senator Dino Melaye beat his political arch rival, Senator smart Adeyemi, to a second position to revalidate his mandate to represent West Senatorial District constituency of kogi state for the next four years at the Senate.

He once said in two separate interviews that he is an ambitious man and would one day love to be the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In his political journey, Senator Dino Melaye has been able to attract democracy dividends to his constituency, as a Representative and as a Senator Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Some of the constituency and community development projects completed by Dino Melaye while serving in the capacity of House of Representative for Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency includes, educational and related projects, health projects, community based projects such as boreholes, palace renovation, grading of roads, health supplies and personal cash and kind donations.

The educational projects for kabba/Bunu Local Government Area include the supply of school furniture to the following schools – St. Andrews Primary School, Kabba, St. Andrews Primary School, Egbeda, Kabba as well as the building of classrooms in Ayetero Kiri. To date in the Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area many undergraduate students have benefited from scholarship schemes under Dino Melaye’s empowerment scheme that spanned over a decade.

He also installed manual – hand pump boreholes in numerous communities including Okebukun, Iluke, Ayegunle Igunand, Ayeh,Oke Offin, Ayetoro Tari, Ode Ape in kabba/Bunu Local Government area in KogiState. His community based projects in Kabba/Bunualso included the renovation of Olu of Oke Bukun and Oba of Oke-Offin’s palaces. Also included in the community projects was the grading of the AyegunleGbede/Olle road and health supplies including supply of drugs to six communities in Bunu, Hospital equipment to Ekiri Adde, drugs to Ekinrin Adde Hospital worth Millions of Naira. Dino Melaye also set up widow empowerment scheme for women in Kabba/Bunu LGA.
