Referees will publicly explain VAR decisions to both fans in the stadium and viewers at home during the Italian Cup semi-finals and final, Serie A announced on Monday.
As part of a new trial, referees will use audio technology to communicate their decisions during the two-legged semi-finals—which include a highly anticipated Milan derby—and the final in May.
However, this technology will only be used for on-field reviews, where referees, after being prompted by the VAR control room, assess decisions on the pitch-side monitor before making a final call.
Additionally, starting this weekend, Serie A will introduce “VARDict”, a feature that will display updates on big screens in stadiums, informing fans when a decision is under VAR review or undergoing an extended check.
