Regina Daniels Responds to Backlash Over Her Anti-Violence Stance

By Milcah Tanimu

Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has confronted critics after facing backlash for her comments on the recent nationwide protests. In a new Instagram post, Daniels defended her position against violence and addressed accusations that her views were influenced by her privileged status as a senator’s wife.

In her post, Daniels highlighted the escalating violence in northern Nigeria, including troubling incidents such as the hoisting of foreign flags. She expressed concern about how such unrest could spread to other regions, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

“I spoke out against violence, and some have claimed it’s due to my privilege,” Daniels stated. “Yes, I am privileged, but that doesn’t mean I am immune to the realities of insecurity affecting everyone, including my staff who need extra support due to these circumstances.”

Daniels asserted that her comments were not intended to gain public favor or represent the government. She stressed that her focus was on the broader issue of violence and the need for collective awareness about the protests, which began on August 1, 2024, and have turned violent in some areas.

“I am not speaking for the government or seeking public approval. My goal is to highlight the truth,” Daniels concluded. “It’s crucial for us to recognize that this protest is evolving into something more concerning.”

Her remarks come amid the ongoing nationwide demonstrations against bad governance in Nigeria, which have sparked significant unrest and controversy.
