Reps Urge IGP and DSS to Investigate Kaduna Killings

The House of Representatives has issued a directive to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Department of State Services (DSS), along with other security agencies, to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent killings of innocent Nigerians in Ambe, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The call for investigation follows the tragic incident where six individuals were reportedly killed in Ambe, an enclave within the Arak chiefdom, on Sunday. Gunmen stormed the community during a birthday celebration, indiscriminately shooting at residents.

During Tuesday’s plenary session, Amos Daniel, the representative of Jemaa/Sanga Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, raised the issue via a motion on matters of urgent public importance. He recounted the events, stating that the assailants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire, resulting in casualties and injuries.

Daniel highlighted the courageous efforts of local youths who apprehended one of the gunmen and handed him over to soldiers. He also mentioned that some victims are currently receiving treatment at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital.

Expressing concern for the traumatized residents and their disrupted livelihoods, Daniel emphasized the need for swift action to restore peace and security in the area.

In response to the motion, the House observed a minute of silence in honor of the deceased victims. Additionally, it called on the IGP to increase police presence in the affected area and urged the security agencies to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice.

Furthermore, the House appealed to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and the National Emergency Management Agency to provide aid to the affected victims.

To ensure compliance with these directives, the House mandated its Committees on Police, Army, and Emergency and Disaster Preparedness to oversee the implementation of these measures.
