Salah returns to Liverpool training after AFCON

Mohamed Salah returned to Liverpool training on Tuesday following his involvement at the Africa Cup of Nations, as the Reds continue preparations for their Champions League clash against Marseille.

The Egypt forward took part in a light training session with the rest of the squad at the club’s training ground, marking his first appearance back with the team since AFCON.

Salah’s return has drawn significant attention in the wake of comments he made in an explosive interview earlier this month, in which he criticised Liverpool, accusing the club of throwing him “under the bus” after he was left out of the starting line-up for three consecutive matches. He also claimed he had no relationship with manager Arne Slot.

Despite the controversy, Salah featured as a substitute in Liverpool’s 2–0 Premier League victory over Brighton on December 13, providing an assist. Slot later insisted the club had moved past the episode.

Speaking last week, the Liverpool manager said he was “happy” to welcome Salah back but declined to reveal details of their discussions. Slot also admitted he was uncertain whether the 33-year-old would be involved in Wednesday’s Champions League fixture against Marseille in France.

Liverpool currently sit ninth in the league phase of the Champions League. The top eight teams qualify automatically for the round of 16, while sides placed between ninth and 24th must contest a play-off round.

Salah finished last season as the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals, helping Liverpool secure a record-equalling 20th league title. However, the forward has struggled for form this season, managing just four goals so far.
