Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District Simon Bako Lalong has admonished young golfers to dedicate themselves to learning the game and its ethics as it has potential to making them world champions.
Senator Lalong was speaking at the opening of the 1st Rayfield Junior Open Golf Championship holding at the Rayfield Golf Club Jos.
He said the game of golf is not only for sport and leisure, but has tourism and business opportunities which come with a lot of financial benefits.
Lalong who is an avid Golfer and a promoter of the sport in Plateau State and Nigeria at large, said those who start the game at a younger age can make reap its fruits more elaborately if they concentrate in learning its ethics and principles.
He commended the organisers and said he will continue to support and encourage such Championships which are for talent discovery and grooming.
Senator Lalong announced prizes for the first three winners.
Secretary to the Government of Plateau State Arch. Samuel Jatau said the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang places importance on sports development with emphasis on catching young sportsmen and women from the grassroots.
He emphasized that Plateau State is the home of golf and tourism which will be encouraged and supported by the government to ensure that the game is not only nurtured, but produces global icons.
The SGS appreciated the former Governor of Plateau State Senator Lalong for his passion for the game and urged other citizens to support sports development and youth activities.
