Sokoto: New CP Challenged Officers And Men Of The Command To Keep Abreast

The 47th Commissioner of Police in Sokoto, Ali Hayatu Kaigama stated this while adresing senior officers,DPOs and heads of departments of the command.

Kaigama in his maiden press briefing after assuming duty on 02/05 thanked and appreciate the wisdom and confidence of their leader, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, pcs (+) NPM, fdc, NEAPS, CFR and his Management Team for finding him worthy and fit to lead the noble effort of maintaining law and order in Sokoto State, the Seat of the Caliphate.

He said there is no better way to start this press briefing than to indicate his knowledge and awareness of the current challenges bedeviling the State.

Kaigama also appreciate and thanked his predecessor, a course mate and senior colleague, the immediate past Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammed Usaini Gumel FIPMA,psc now CP Kano State for laying a solid foundation on which they will continue to uphold and improve upon.

He also said he was equally briefed of the unimaginable Security situation which has become a disturbing phenomenon in some parts of the country, unfortunately and sadly too, Sokoto state is among the most hit which has brought about dare consequences especially in the eastern part of the State consisting of Sabon birni, Isa, Goronyo, illelah, Gwadabawa, Rabah, Wurno, and Gada LGA and some handful Local Government Areas in the State where the insecurity inflicted unprecedented psychological pains and dislocation of economic activities.

He therefore called upon officers and Men to remain resolute in the face of these challenges which he believe they cannot do it alone but must synergize and collaborate with the military, sister agencies and all critical stakeholders including the vigilante groups across the State for a better and successful result of reclaiming and dominating the public space from criminals.

He then appreciate and solicite the support of members of the press who are very critical in the fight against crime and criminality.

“On this note, I want to assure you that Sokoto metropolis, major towns across the State and public places will enjoy visibility policing, patrol and raiding of black spots in order to eradicate violent crimes, political violence, thuggery, communal clash and any other emerging threats.

“This will be done in accordance with international best practices and also be mindful of human right abuses”.

He added that the command will also engage and strengthen the services of PCRC at all Divisional, Area command and State Headquarters level and then called on all and sundry of Sokoto state to get involve in this noble course directly or indirectly by way of contributing intelligence as security is every body’s business.

While marking the beginning of a new dawn in fighting crime and criminality in Sokoto State, he enjoined all officers of this command to continue to be professional and dedicated as well as strive to perform their duties diligently and optimally with passion, vigour and sincerity of purpose until the people of this State sleeps with their two eyes close.

Kaigama then prayed Almighty ALLAH to guide all to achieve this purpose for the benefit of the State and country at large.
