Sporting Kansas City pulled off a stunning victory against the No. 1-ranked St. Louis CITY SC in the MLS playoffs, with Logan Ndenbe and Daniel Salloi scoring the goals for Sporting KC.
Ndenbe opened the scoring with an impressive striker’s finish, finding the back of the net with his weak foot from the top of the box in first-half stoppage time.
Salloi secured the game-winner in the 73rd minute following a brilliant counter-attack by Sporting KC, which occurred after a CITY corner kick attempt. The Hungarian winger was in the right place at the back post to tap in the goal.
Sporting KC’s victory marked a surprising turn of events, as St. Louis CITY SC had bested Sporting KC twice during the regular season. However, in two playoff matches, Sporting KC emerged victorious.
Sporting KC is now awaiting their next opponent for the Western Conference playoff semifinals.
