The staff of the Sokoto State University Library has within the week celebrated the University Librarian, Dr. Ibrahim M. M. Furfuri, for being elevated to the position of Associate Professor of Library and Information Science by the Governing Council of the Institution.
Speaking during the epoch-making event, which took place in the conference room of the University Library, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Bashir Garba, MFR, described Dr. Furfuri as a committed and dedicated University Librarian who contributed immensely to the development of the Institution.
Prof. Garba, therefore, urged the celebrant to remain committed to duty, especially, as the University is preparing to receive teams of accreditors from the National Universities Commission to assess some of its undergraduate programs that are matured for accreditation.
The Vice-Chancellor has similarly expressed the Institution’s warm appreciation to the Sokoto State Government, under the able leadership of Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, (Mutawallen Sokoto) for constructing, and furnishing the University Library with ICT automation, reading, and reference materials among other developmental projects.
Prof. Garba further called on the staff of the University Library, in particular, and the entire staff of the Institution to remain alive to their responsibilities to take Sokoto State University to an enviable position.
In their separate remarks, the Director of Development Office of the University, Prof. Nasiru Ibrahim Tambuwal; Ag. Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Umar Ubandawaki; and Director, Academic Planning, Dr. Muhammad Sirajo, described Dr. Furfuri as an honest, reliable, and hardworking fellow that is always working towards the success of the University.
Speaking on behalf of the organizers of the event, Mal. Jamilu Isah said they organized the occasion to celebrate the milestone achievement recorded by their Head and to also encourage him to accomplish more in life.
In his vote of thanks, the celebrant, Dr. Furfuri commended the leadership style of the Vice-Chancellor, which he described as inclusive and goal-oriented. To that end, he promised to justify the confidence reposed in him by the University Management.
He similarly expressed his delight and appreciation for the honor done to him by members of his staff. The University Librarian also thanked all those who contributed to the success of the event.
