Super Falcons Trio at Risk of Suspension Ahead of Ireland Match

Must read

By Daniel Edu

As the Super Falcons gear up to face the Republic of Ireland in their final Group B fixture at the Women’s World Cup, three key players find themselves on thin ice. Asisat Oshoala, Mitchell Alozie, and Tosin Demehin are all just one yellow card away from suspension, a concern that looms over the crucial match.

Should any of them receive another booking during the Ireland match, they will be forced to sit out the round of 16 clash if the team advances. Both Alozie and Demehin have already been cautioned for their offenses during the games against Australia and Canada, respectively. Similarly, Oshoala was shown a yellow card for her shirt-stripping celebration after netting Nigeria’s third goal against the co-hosts.

Adding to the team’s worries, Deborah Abiodun will also be unavailable for the upcoming match due to a two-match suspension after receiving a straight red card during the game against Canada.

With these concerns in mind, the Falcons are aware of the stakes and the need to perform well against the already eliminated Republic of Ireland. The encounter is set to take place at Lang Park on Monday, and securing at least a point will be crucial for the team to secure their place in the round of 16.
