There has been tension in Assakio town in the Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State since Fulani herdsmen boycotted all activities in the community after sharing kolanuts last Wednesday.
This was disclosure during a peace meeting at the headquarters of the Ministry for Local Government in Lafia.
The meeting was at the instance of the overseer of the development area, Mr Shuaibu Buba.
The meeting was inconclusive even when the overseer offered to buy kolanuts and share for peace to reign.
The meeting was also attended by the representative of the traditional ruler, the Ossakio of Owusakyo, Osula Inarigu; the state chairman Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria , Hussaini Mohammed; and security officials.
The action of the herdsmen is said to have sparked panic among residents of the town as some believed that by sharing kolanuts and boycotting town activities the herdsmen were planning to cause trouble in the town.
Sources claimed some of them had already fled Assakio based on the fear of the unknown.
It was also learnt that the herdsmen were angry because some people in the community alleged that they were selling unhealthy sheep and cows.
However, MACBAN chairman in Lafia East, Abdullahi Mamuda, denied the allegation.Mamuda said all efforts to resolve the matter in the palace of the traditional ruler were unsuccessful.
