Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has shed light on the hasty burial of his son, who sadly passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, with the funeral taking place the following day.
In a recent interview shared by Temilola Sobola (@TemilolaSobola) on Instagram, Aloba cited Yoruba culture as the reason behind the expeditious burial. He explained that it is customary not to delay the burial of a deceased person when both parents are still alive.
He noted that if Mohbad had passed away at an older age, the possibility of keeping his body in a mortuary for a later date might have been considered.
Aloba further disclosed that the land where his son was laid to rest had been given to Mohbad to construct a church. He clarified that the decision to conduct a swift burial was in accordance with Yoruba customs.
“In Yoruba culture, it is not customary to preserve the body of the deceased when both of the parents are still alive,” he explained.
“The land where Mohbad was laid to rest was the only land he owned, as far as I know. Indeed, he had given me that land for the construction of my church because we had mutually agreed to build the church there. That was the only land I was aware of him owning.”
Mohbad, a former artist previously signed to Marlian Music under the ownership of Naira Marley, parted ways with the label in February 2022.
On Monday, Mohbad’s management team revealed plans for a candlelight procession and tribute night in honor of the late artist, scheduled for Thursday (tomorrow). In a separate development, the Lagos State Governor extended an invitation on Wednesday to the Department of Security Services to participate in the investigation concerning the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
