Tinubu approves Youths Secretariat in FCT

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

After several requests, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has finally approved the creation of a Youth Secretariat in the FCT.

The FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike disclosed this to a teeming number of youths from Bwari and AMAC on Monday during a Town Hall meeting in Bwari Area Council, as part of efforts to discourage the youths from participating in the upcoming August 1st nationwide strike.

The FCT Youth Secretariat is equivalent to ministries in the states to be headed by a Secretary who is equivalent to State Commissioners.

Wike told the youths, “I have good news for you, following your complaints, I approached the president, Mr. President has graciously approved the creation of a youth Secretariat for the FCT.”

Wike assured them that the president has assured him that he would look into other matters concerning them and make amends.

He also promised them that an additional police station has been approved to be built in the six Area Councils to provide adequate security for the people.

“Security is a critical priority in the Renewed Hope Agenda. One police station each has been approved to be built in each area council.”

Addressing the issue of maginalization as claimed by the youth of Bwari Area Council, the minister said, “Nobody likes injustice, that is what informed my policy of spreading amenities, when you are happy, allow your neighbour to be happy too, that is what brings peace.”

He also assured them that when appointments would be given, he would consider special areas.

Wike further urged the youths of Bwari and AMAC to shun the August 1st protest, but to embrace dialogue.

However, the youths assured the Minister that they would not join the August 1st planned strike.

“An economy that was down for decades cannot be fixed in one year, give us time,” Wike told the youths.”

Earlier, youth leaders from Bwari Area Council and the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC promised that they would not join the planned nationwide protests, but preferred dialogue.

Earlier the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike had inspected a 29 km road construction in Paikon- Kore in Gwagwalada.

Wike who was pleased with the contractor assured the people that the road would be completed and commissioned in December this year, said that the road will promote food security in the agrarian community.
