Tiwa Savage Reflects on Public Scrutiny After Divorce

By   Milcah  Tanimu

Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage has shared how her image transformed from “Nigeria’s sweetheart” to a target of public scrutiny following her 2018 divorce from ex-husband Teebillz.

During a recent appearance on the Receipts podcast, Tiwa described the overwhelming love she once received, noting, “I did everything by the books… everyone loved me.” However, after her publicized divorce, the narrative shifted.

Tiwa explained the intense criticism she faced, especially after her ex-husband’s public announcement of their separation. She revealed, “I was dealing with postpartum depression, and my body wasn’t the same, yet I was the one being blamed while very few people supported me.”

Attempts to tell her side of the story only intensified the backlash. Prominent figures even warned her against speaking out, fearing damage to her public image.

This raw reflection highlights the pressures faced by women in the spotlight and societal expectations around marriage and motherhood.

Stay tuned for more on Tiwa Savage’s journey and resilience in the face of public criticism.
