A distressing incident has unfolded in India’s eastern state of Bihar, where two individuals have tragically lost their lives, and two others have been left without their eyesight after consuming contaminated alcohol.
This heartbreaking occurrence occurred within the jurisdiction of the Qazi Mohammadpur police station in Muzaffarpur district, situated approximately 72 km north of Bihar’s capital city, Patna.
Authorities have disclosed that the fatal incidents occurred when two individuals from the Pokharia Pir locality returned home in an inebriated state three days ago, subsequently falling gravely ill. Despite receiving medical attention, they sadly succumbed to their illnesses.
Furthermore, two additional residents of the same locality have suffered the grievous loss of their eyesight as a result of consuming the tainted alcoholic beverage.
In response to this tragic situation, law enforcement agencies have launched investigations and are diligently working to identify those responsible for distributing the toxic liquor. A concerted effort to crack down on illicit liquor suppliers within the district has also been initiated.
A police spokesperson emphasized, “The number of affected individuals may potentially rise, as both the police and district administration have commenced extensive door-to-door searches in the area to locate people who have fallen ill after consuming the adulterated alcohol.”
This heart-wrenching incident highlights the ongoing issue of counterfeit alcohol distribution in Bihar, a state where the sale and consumption of alcohol are strictly prohibited by law.
Notably, this recent tragedy underscores the sale of adulterated liquor in a region where the production and consumption of alcohol are severely restricted by law.
