Two Brothers Arrested in Kaduna for Burying Man Alive Over Missing Phone

In a shocking incident, two brothers from Gauraki village, Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have been arrested for allegedly burying their colleague alive over a missing mobile phone. The Kaduna State Police Command, through its spokesperson Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest of Yahaya Abdulkadir, 24, and his younger brother, Abdullahi Abdulkadir, 18.

The incident came to light after a disturbing video surfaced online, showing a man buried up to his neck with only his head exposed. The victim, Abubakar Aliyu, 20, was identified as a fellow laborer from the same village. According to police investigations, the brothers accused Aliyu of stealing a phone valued at N35,000 while they were working together at a construction site in Abuja.

Following the accusation, the group of laborers decided that Aliyu’s wages would be deducted to compensate for the stolen phone. Angered by this resolution, Aliyu left Abuja and returned to his hometown in Zaria. However, the two brothers tracked him down on August 10, 2024. They forcibly took him to an abandoned building, dug a grave-like pit, and buried him alive, leaving only his head above the ground.

Aliyu remained in this horrifying state until a passerby heard his cries and raised the alarm, leading to his rescue. The police later apprehended the suspects, who confessed to the crime, claiming it was an attempt to interrogate Aliyu over the stolen phone.

The police have strongly condemned the act and issued a warning against jungle justice, promising a thorough investigation into the case to ensure justice is served.
