Uba Sani Faces Pressure Amidst El-rufai Probe

By Milcah Tanimu

Governor uba sani of kaduna state is under scrutiny as pressure mounts for him to hand over his former boss and mentor, mallam nasir el-rufai, to anti-corruption agencies over allegations of misappropriating n423 billion in state funds. The investigation, initiated by the kaduna state house of assembly, has sparked significant debate and controversy, particularly within the ruling all progressives congress (APC).

El-rufai, a prominent figure in the apc and former governor of kaduna state, has long been regarded as a powerful political player. The probe, led by an ad-hoc committee, scrutinizes his eight-year tenure and raises questions about the relationship between sani and el-rufai.

The committee’s findings allege that loans obtained during el-rufai’s administration were not used for their intended purposes, leading to calls for further investigation and possible prosecution. The report has divided political opinion in kaduna, straining the bond between sani and his mentor.

Governor sani, who has been a staunch ally of el-rufai for over two decades, faces a dilemma. While some argue that he should act on the findings and uphold accountability, others caution against destabilizing the apc and urge careful consideration given his close ties to el-rufai.

Public reactions have been mixed, with some, including senator shehu sani, advocating for thorough investigation and accountability. Others, like former commissioners from el-rufai’s administration, reject the committee’s report, claiming it is biased and unfair.

As the situation unfolds, governor sani remains at a crossroads, balancing political loyalty with calls for transparency and justice in the face of significant public and political pressure.
