United and Chelsea Battle for Porto Striker Samuel Omorodion

By   Milcah   Tanimu

Manchester United and Chelsea are set to go head-to-head in pursuit of Porto striker Samuel Omorodion, with both clubs eyeing the 20-year-old for the summer 2025 transfer window. According to reports, Chelsea previously agreed to a £35 million transfer from Atletico Madrid, but the deal fell through, and Omorodion joined Porto instead, where he has shined this season.

Since moving to Porto, Omorodion has scored 11 goals in 11 appearances, including seven in league play and four in the Europa League. His standout performance included a brace against Manchester United, underscoring why top clubs are interested in securing his talent.

Fichajes reports that Chelsea is prepared to reignite its pursuit of Omorodion but will face stiff competition from United, who see him as a priority target. Porto, however, is keen to retain the rising star and will likely point interested clubs toward his €100 million (£83.3 million) release clause.

Omorodion’s journey began with Granada before moving to Atletico Madrid, though he made no senior appearances for them. He spent the 2023-24 season on loan with Alaves, netting eight goals, and then joined Porto, where he has quickly established himself as a top striker.

Reflecting on his transfer struggles last summer, Omorodion revealed the challenges he faced while at Atletico, describing a period of uncertainty that led him to Porto. Now, as Porto’s joint-top scorer with Galeno, Omorodion has shown he can handle the pressures of top-tier European football, making him a highly sought-after target.
