United Methodist Church in Nigeria (UMCN) mourns Sierra Leone Bishop, John K. Yambasu.

The General overseas of the United Methodist Church in Nigeria, Bishop John Wesley Yohanna has commiserate with the family and members of the United Methodist Church in Sierra Leone over the death of their Bishop, John K. Yambasu

Bishop John Wesley Yohanna in a statement said the demise of his colleague, late Bishop John K. Yambasu came to him as a great shock stressing that words cannot describe the pain the church in Nigeria is going through at this moment.

“I Received the sad news of the demise of my colleague, late Bishop John K. Yambasu with great shocked Up to this moment it seems unbelievable that Bishop Yambasu is gone, words cannot describe the pain our church in Nigeria is going through at this moment, late Bishop Yambasu’s life and ministry has impacted many of us in the United Methodist Church Nigeria, Africa and our United Methodist global connecting ministry “. He noted

He said right from the beginning of late Bishop Yambasu educational carrier he has been resourceful in providing literacy to many young people in his home country Sierra Leone, and West Africa.

“His role as a Youth Coordinator for West Africa has groomed many young people to serve the Church in different levels including the ordained ministry of the United Methodist Church; his role as a young fellow regional missionary resident in Sierra Leone and Ghana has helped in connecting Africa to the global body of the United Methodist Church and thereby enhancing mission engagement in Africa, as a result of his efforts in this capacity – we saw remarkable growth the numbers of schools hospital, and Evangelism growth in Africa”

“As a bishop, Yambasu was a voice for peace, unity, justice and reconciliation. I remembered his active role in peace building and conflict transformation in the United Methodist Church in Nigeria and Burundi, his death is painful to us, as people of the United Methodist Church because of his role in the Protocol of Grace and Reconciliation, It is sad when we remember that he cannot live to see this go through at our General Conference”. He stressed.

The United Methodist Church Resident Bishop in Sierra Leone, Dr. John K. Yambasu, died yesterday morning in a road accident outside the capital Freetown.

He was reported to have been on his way to attend the funeral service of one of his pastors – the Late Reverend Edward Kamara when his vehicle to left the road and crashed on to the side of a hill.

Until his death Bishop Yambasu was also president of the Africa College of Bishops of The United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Church Resident Bishop in Sierra Leone
