Renowned poet, playwright, actor, and folk singer, Jimi Solanke, has sadly passed away at the age of 81. The legendary artist, known for his exceptional contributions to the arts, left a lasting legacy in the world of entertainment.

Jimi Solanke reportedly died on Monday while being transported from his country home in Ipara Remo, Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State, to Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilisan. The veteran had been in and out of the hospital since December, and his health condition took a turn for the worse on Monday morning, leading to his untimely demise.

Hon. Dickson Awolaja, who represents Remo North State Constituency in the Ogun State Assembly, confirmed the news of Jimi Solanke’s passing. Expressing condolences, he acknowledged the significant loss to Remo North and Ogun State, recognizing the artist’s invaluable contributions to the nation’s development.

Jimi Solanke, affectionately referred to as Uncle Jimi, left an indelible mark through his works, including notable productions like Kongi’s Harvest, Sango, and Shadow Parties. His departure marks the end of an era in the Nigerian entertainment industry. May his soul rest in peace.
